Today we ready continue our work, it's to making pies & puff pastry. my team got the job to make an apple pie, on the sidelines of the activities of Mr. Faisal have a time to show how to make puff pastry. on the previous day we had made sugar dough & croissants. but the croissant failed so it was repeated the next day. OK, let's look at the terminology of pie & puff pastry.

  • Pie 
Pastei or Pai (English: pie) is a food made up of dry cake skin and various contents. For Filling can be fruit, meat, fish, vegetables, cheese, chocolate, kustar, peanuts, and others. Pei that contains the fruit is usually a thick liquid sweetened like jam or cut in dice style then baked together with paste skin.

Pei fruits are usually served with ice cream, called à la mode. Australian pei meat is considered an Australian national food, containing beef and gravy. Adelaide's specialty is a floating paste (pie floater).


In comedy films, pastei is often used to throw someone's face. It is also sometimes done to politicians and celebrities, and this behavior is called pieing. Pastei's cake also became famous through the animated film Tom and Jerry.


In Indonesia, famous milk pie (milk pastry) originating from Bali.


The characteristics that make pastei are different from other cakes, including:
  • Pastei must have skin made of grains, wheat, rice, crackers or crumb cakes.
  • Pastei is baked in the process of making it. Pastei not fried, or boiled and steamed.
  • The baked paste skin is placed / molded in a container that is usually round or rectangular. The container is made of metal or glass that is heat resistant. 
  • In the United States, pastries have a kind of brittle crust at the bottom.
  • Pastei containing leprosy is usually decorated with pieces of fruit at the top.




  • Puff Pastry
Puff pastry or also known as the pâte feuilletée, is a thin and light layer of typical French bread. The texture is very crunchy and tends to break down to form crumbs when bitten.

Puff pastry and bread are both fluffy. However, both of them expand in different ways. If the bread expands because of the help of yeast and forms a soft texture. Unlike the case with puff pastry. He expanded because of the help of special fats that were applied on the sidelines of the dough. When baked, the fat will melt and make it expand into thin layers.
